What Parents are saying about St. Joseph School
St. Joseph Elementary School is a community of faith
built on a foundation of Christian values and Roman
Catholic tradition. We share and give witness to the
gospel message, a life of service to others, and
worship of God.
Our curriculum addresses the total well being of our
students. We provide child-centered nurturing
environment that challenges and supports each
individual student. We strive to foster self-esteem,
self-motivation, respect for others, and responsible
behavior.
We recognize parent's primary responsibility for
their children's education. We are family-focused
and give a high priority to communication,
involvement and services that meet their needs.
St. Joseph's School promotes ownership among its
school families, parishioners and the surrounding
community.
In 1962 a parish center was built next to the school
house. The main level consisted of classrooms and a
gym. In the basement were two bowling alleys. This
expansion allowed the parish to conduct classes for
students in grades 1 through 8.
The stock market crash of 1929 and the subsequent
depression hit the parish hard. In the fall of 1931,
grades 1 through 4 were closed. Several classrooms
were rented out to the public school. Only grades 5
through 8 were taught in the parish school until the
1950's.
In 1954 the parish enlarged the school. With the new
classrooms the parish once again had all eight
grades. Franciscan Sisters from Little Falls agreed
to staff the school. In 1959 a second floor was
added to the school.
Today the parish school building houses several
programs. A child care program for infants through
preschoolers. A kindergarten through grade 6
program. An after school and summer care programs
for students in grades K through 6. In addition, the
parish joins other area parishes in operating John
XXIII Middle School and Cathedral High School.
